iOS 15’s new spam filtering feature is only available in India and Brazil

Apple released iOS 15 at WWDC 2021 earlier today, which enhanced some features and provided some new features. In addition, Apple has made some improvements for specific user groups. As mentioned on the official website, Brazilian users will now have built-in spam filtering.

As mentioned on the webpage listing all the new features of iOS 15, there is a new Brazilian Spam Filter. Although you may not have heard of this feature before, it actually existed in iOS 14 last year, but it is suitable for Indian users.

Now, Apple is only extending it to Brazilian users in iOS 15. With this update, Brazilian users will not see this content in the main list of the Messages app. These spam messages will now be quietly stored in three new categories: promotions, transactions, and spam folders.

In addition, the notification options in the message include India and China, and notifications can be turned on or off for unknown senders, transactions, and promotions to determine the types of notifications you want to receive.

If you want to ask why this feature is limited to Brazil and India? Although Apple has not elaborated on it at present, there must be a reason why this feature is only available to users in Brazil and India-at least foreign media believe it is the case.

To put it simply, the usage rate of iMessage in these two countries is too low, and ordinary text messages eventually become a gathering place for spam, and operators and other companies will also send a large number of SMS spam messages to users here, and even 0 Level SMS.

Level 0 SMS was created to send users important warnings about weather disasters and similar events, but it is now mostly used to send spam SMS. Therefore, in order to filter regular spam, Apple is using machine learning and other AI technologies to train and recognize spam in these countries instead of relying on third-party databases.
