Google expands Android Enterprise Essentials to help SMEs manage Android devices

Although Android is the world’s largest smartphone platform for users, many business owners are reluctant to deploy Android phones into their systems. The big reason is the security and the cost of managing these phones.

To enhance business owners’ confidence in the security of the Android platform, Google launched the Android Enterprise Essentials project last year. Now, Google announced the expansion of the scope of this service to better protect small and medium-sized enterprises in major global markets.

In terms of device management, Android Enterprise Essentials can be considered a lite version provided by Google for major corporate customers. The project allows small and medium enterprises to implement basic mobile security functions without training or hiring additional IT personnel.

Google “small improvements with big rewards” (small improvements with big rewards) should attract many SMEs. Android Enterprise Essentials covers security policies, such as enforcing a screen lock or preventing sideloading of apps.

Device management functions include not only remotely erasing lost or stolen mobile phones, but also automatically setting up devices handed over to employees. This corporate product for small and medium enterprises was launched at the end of last year and is limited to some distributors in the United States and the United Kingdom.

This year, Google expanded the coverage of the program to three other countries, as well as more distributors in the United States and the United Kingdom. The current list includes Vox Mobile in the United States; The Barcode Warehouse and Telserve in the United Kingdom; LDLC Pro, DAMS and Saphelec in France; Brodos and Everphone in Germany; and Synnex in Japan.

Android Enterprise Essentials is mainly aimed at small businesses, but Google says it can also meet the simple device management needs of large organizations. In other words, it also hopes that these customers will eventually be able to upgrade to its more complex and expensive enterprise management solutions.
