In the first preview update of Windows 11 released today, Microsoft has upgraded the Windows Update feature to let users know how long it takes to restart the device to install the update offline.
In other words, whenever your device receives a new update, then Windows 11 will show the estimated time required to complete the installation of the update. The time will appear on the Windows Update page and the power options menu of the start menu.
As you can see in the screenshot above, the estimated time will be displayed next to the relevant power options. As for how accurate the estimated time value is, it is difficult to say, although we believe these figures are based on the actual performance of the system. However, in my case, the update installation was completed in less than a minute, and Windows 11 estimated that the whole thing would take 5 minutes to end.

Most likely, Microsoft will further improve this feature in the future Windows 11 preview, so when the new operating system is ready to be rolled out to production equipment, everything should be a little more reliable overall.
The company explained: “What we provide is an estimate of how long it will take to restart for the update. When your computer is waiting to restart due to quality updates, you will be able to start the power menu, restart notification, Windows Update settings page, and the estimated time can be seen in the Windows Update icon displayed at the bottom right of the taskbar. This feature was initially launched to some internal personnel in the development channel, so not everyone can see this immediately.”
