Windows 7 equipped computers will not support direct upgrades to Windows 11

Windows 7 is no longer supported by Microsoft, because this 2009 operating system has reached the end of its life in January 2020. But of course, this does not necessarily mean that everyone has given up Windows 7, because many individuals and organizations are still running it, mainly because of application compatibility.

Of course, most of these computers have put additional security measures in place, so in theory, even if they are running Windows 7, their networks will not be exposed to attacks. Organizations that are willing to pay for support are still getting security updates through the ESU program, which allows them to get additional support, as long as they pay a fee based on the number of devices.

Now that Windows 11 is under development, Microsoft hopes that some organizations will also migrate their Windows 7 devices to the new operating system, although it is obviously a challenge for older computers to support it first.

However, if a Windows 7 computer does meet the Windows 11 system requirements, it will not be allowed to directly migrate to the new operating system, but only through a clean installation. This is because Windows 7 computers do not provide a direct upgrade method to Windows 11. In this case, the only way to get a new operating system is to start from scratch.

Microsoft said: “Most of the devices that can be purchased now will be upgraded to Windows 11. You will have the option of upgrading and clean installation to upgrade to Windows 11. For Windows 7 devices that meet the hardware requirements, the clean installation will be required to use Windows 11”.

The new installation process obviously requires additional work, especially backing up data, so it is recommended that IT administrators plan the migration of the entire network in advance. Third-party statistics show that Windows 7 is still the second most popular operating system, although it will no longer be supported from January 2020.

But with the debut of Windows 11, Microsoft said that Windows 7 users have no reason not to upgrade to this operating system, at least in terms of application compatibility. “Microsoft is committed to ensuring that your applications can run on the latest version of our software.

Windows 11 is built with compatibility in mind. Our promise is that applications running on Windows 7/8.1/10 will run on Windows 7/8.1/10. Run-on 11. If you have App Assure service permissions, Microsoft will help you repair them for free,” the company explained.

“App Assure is a service that helps customers solve application problems that they may encounter when deploying our latest version of the software.
