Xiaomi’s curved screen concept revealed

In early 2021, Xiaomi submitted a design patent application for a curved screen smartphone to the CNIPA and officially announced it to the outside world on July 6. Dutch technology blog LetsGoDigital pointed out: The document contains 8 illustrations, detailing two different smartphone designs. Among them, the Model A’s body screen has concessions to the frame at the four corners, while the Model B’s full screen covers more complete coverage.

Previously, we have seen the surround screen design used by Xiaomi on the MIX Alpha concept device. But the two introduced in this patent application show that the company also has the same strong interest. Of course, Xiaomi is not the only mobile phone manufacturer to study this possibility. For example, Samsung has also submitted a patent for a smartphone with a four-sided 3D full screen, and the corners are more rounded.

Closer to home, Xiaomi seems to use a hidden front camera design under the screen in the new concept design of Model A. The area of the screen that extends to the frame can be used not only to display status information such as battery power and network signal strength but also to add special touch functions.

It is also worth noting that we have not seen any physical buttons and ports on the new concept device, whether it is Model A or Model B. It reminds us of the Meizu Zero in 2019 and the Apex 2019 concept machine shown by Vivo.

As for the rear camera module on the back, Xiaomi’s new concept phone uses two rectangular top and bottom solutions. Although the company was the first to adopt the Samsung ISOCELL image sensor with hundreds of millions of pixels, it is still unclear what kind of lens combination the new concept machine will introduce.
