Minecraft in South Korea is an 18+ game

Quoting Korean media reports, due to South Korea’s Minors Protection Act amendment (also known as Cinderella Act), Microsoft recently raised the age threshold for Minecraft players, and Xbox Live accounts need to be over 19 years old to play.

Although the recommended age of Minecraft in many countries and regions is 12+, Microsoft has also made corresponding adjustments due to the strengthening of the new law to prevent children from indulging in games.

The Cinderella Act was released in 2011. The most important one is that children are prohibited from playing games between midnight and 6 in the morning. At that time, Microsoft did not establish a dedicated server or screening function for South Korea but chose to let users prove their age through Xbox Live and important information that they are 19 years old or above.

Since Minecraft acquired Mojang Studio in 2014, players can enter the game through Mojang Studio’s account instead of Xbox Live’s account. According to the Korean Herald report, in December last year, Microsoft decided that due to security issues, to play Minecraft, you really need an Xbox Live account. Players are asked to migrate their Mojang studio accounts to Xbox Live, however, this does not take into account Korean players 19 years of age or older.
