To be more competitive, Google Pixel 6 will use rigid OLED panels

It was previously revealed that Google’s upcoming Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro will be equipped with OLED screens. This is not surprising, after all, the low-end Pixel 4a is also equipped with an OLED screen. But there are several types of OLED screens. An analyst believes that in order to cut costs, Google will use rigid OLED panels from Samsung.

Although the screen type of the Pixel 6 Pro is not yet known, Ross Young, CEO of the screen research organization DSCC, said that the use of rigid OLED panels will help Google save a lot of costs. Even the previously launched Pixel 4a uses rigid OLED panels instead of flexible panels from time to time.

He went on to say, in the smartphone using a rigid OLED screen can save a lot of money for manufacturers, because the price of these panels is one-third of the flexible OLED screen. Apple uses higher-priced flexible OLEDs because its goal is to provide the smallest possible bezels on the iPhone.

Therefore, one disadvantage of using a rigid OLED screen is that the appearance of Pixel 6 may not be as attractive as its competitors, because Google may not be able to shrink the bezel as it hopes.
