Google Pixel 6 series will use Samsung rigid OLED panels

Some people may worry that the use of OLED screens will greatly increase the cost, but there is not only one type of OLED, it can have different materials, and the cost is different, so Google has used it on Pixel 4a. It is understood that Samsung may provide rigid OLED panels to reduce the cost of Google phones and make the pricing of the Pixel 6 series more competitive.

According to Twitter user DSCCRoss, Samsung’s provision of rigid OLED panels to Google will help reduce costs. Prior to this, Google could use OLED displays on the Pixel 4a, and the price was only $349 because the screen was not a flexible OLED panel.

In the smartphone using a rigid OLED panel can save a lot of money for manufacturers, with only one-third of its flexible OLED panel costs. Apple uses flexible OLED panels on iPhones to make the frame relatively small. However, the use of rigid OLED panels in the Pixel 6 series may not attract some consumers because the frame cannot be made too small.

It is not clear whether Google will let the Pixel 6 series use an LTPO OLED screen with an adaptive dynamic refresh rate to extend battery life. In addition, the Pixel 6 series will use Google’s self-developed chip called Whitechapel for the first time and will be manufactured using Samsung’s 5nm process. It is expected that Google will officially release Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro in October this year, which will be equipped with the Android 12 system.
