According to Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman, the redesigned larger iMac with Apple Silicon as the core is still on the road to replace the current 27-inch Intel model. Gurman wrote in the latest issue of his Power On newsletter that Apple recently increased the screen size of the smaller iMac from 21.5 inches to 24 inches, indicating that the 27-inch model may have the same level of size increase.
He said that a larger, redesigned iMac that replaces Intel’s 27-inch model is on the way. Apple has increased the screen size of smaller models from 21.5 inches to 24 inches, which seems to indicate that the size of the 27-inch model may also increase. However, he does not think that Apple will use the M1 chip in the smaller model to launch a larger model, it may be a higher level of M1X, that is, an enhanced version of the current M1, or M2X.
For some time, Apple has been planning to use a self-developed processor to equip a larger iMac, but it is said that the development of this model has been suspended to allow Apple to focus on releasing the redesigned 24-inch model, which was announced in April. The 27-inch Intel models remaining in Apple’s lineup will be launched in August 2020 at the latest, and their production cycle has come to an end.
The new and larger iMac may mimic several changes that debuted in the latest 24-inch model, such as a thinner overall design, studio-quality microphones, and of course a more powerful Apple Silicon processor to replace Intel.
In another communication, Gurman also downplayed the idea that Apple might one day introduce Touch ID to the Apple Watch. He admitted that Touch ID is useful in Apple Watch, especially when approving payment for apps and media downloads, but he said he doesn’t think this change will happen in the near future.
