The patent suggests that the Surface Book may use an Apple-like Magic Keyboard Stand

A new patent recently disclosed reveals how Microsoft has applied a design similar to Apple’s Magic Keyboard to future Surface Book (or Surface Laptop, etc.) notebook computers. Windows Latest pointed out that this patent focuses on describing a screen hinge, which is characterized by being able to connect the supporting structure to the screen part and supporting a certain angle of rotation.

Unlike common keyboard cases or detachable tablet keyboard bases, the design described in the patent is closer to the Magic Keyboard prepared by Apple for the iPad. Thanks to the damped hinge design, it may also be equipped with a one-click release button and allow the screen to rotate around the keyboard stand.

In addition to easily turning the tablet into a laptop, the unique stand and hinge design also help to improve the viewing angle and stability during video calls. When in use, you will find that the Surface device can be easily fixed to an appropriate angle, and allows moderate sliding adjustment on the main support strip to change the hinge angle between the screen and the stand.

In the patent illustration, Microsoft envisions support for devices in a variety of shapes. For example, in some configurations, the screen can be parallel to the stand, making it closer to a traditional 2-in-1 laptop (such as the Surface Book).

While reducing the overall width of the device, it will not cause conflicts with other components connected to the bracket. In addition, for laptop-shaped devices, the bracket can also support the flat screen.

Interestingly, Microsoft seems to be exploring support for 5G connections. In the second patent, the company proposed a new design that allows users to replace most of the components in the fuselage and switch between 5G/Wi-Fi connections.

If it is successfully launched, we may see a modular Surface Book, and even the screen panel can be easily replaced. As for the company’s surprises (such as Surface Pro 8 and Surface Duo 2) at the October-November press conference this year, please be patient.
