Google Maps for iOS gets dark mode and Message integrated live location sharing feature

According to the latest reports, Google today released a new update of the Google Maps application designed specifically for the iPhone. One of the most eye-catching new features is the dark mode (Dark mode), which is what Google Maps app users have always wanted. The dark mode is an alternative to light mode, allowing the darker user interface to match other dark mode apps on iOS devices.

According to Google, the dark mode will be launched in the next few weeks. Once it is available, it can be enabled in the settings section of Google Maps. Google said that the dark mode of Google Maps can save battery and let the eyes rest.

Apple introduced the dark mode feature in iOS 13 for the first time, but it took Google some time to support its applications. Google started rolling out the dark mode feature to Android users earlier this year. The dark mode of the iOS version of Google Maps looks similar to the Android version.

With the advent of dark mode, Google today announced the launch of a new Messages integration. With this feature, Google Maps users can share real-time locations with friends in an iMessage through the Google Maps button in the Message application. The location is shared within one hour by default, but there is an option to extend the access-three days or stop access at any time.

Google’s blog post also stressed the widget functionality recently introduced, which allows iPhone users to add the Google Maps widget on the main screen or Today view. Widgets can be used to check traffic conditions or find nearby places.
