Wear OS 3 should count on dual voice assistant and a new CPU

According to the latest rumors about the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 series, with Wear OS 3 the Google team could allow users to choose between two voice assistants which to use (i.e. Google Assistant and Bixby).

The 9to5Google staff decided to analyze the Wear OS app code and in fact, found a line of code that seems to confirm this hypothesis: we refer to a package called com.google.android.wearable.alternate_assistant.

Unfortunately, at the moment there are no details on how the solution studied by the Google developers could work but users will probably have the possibility to choose between Google Assistant and Bixby through a special icon in the Wear OS launcher.

It remains to be seen whether other intelligent voice assistants, such as Amazon Alexa, will be able to take advantage of this method to integrate into Wear OS in the not too distant future.

Qualcomm may have a new processor for Wear OS

Qualcomm has already confirmed that it plans to continue collaborating with Google regarding wearable devices and Snapdragon Wear 5100 could be one of the next processors launched for use in the smartwatch sector. As we learn from XDA Developers, Qualcomm has uploaded the new code on Code Aurora Forum and inside it was also found the abbreviation SW5100, which probably stands for Snapdragon Wear 5100.

Unfortunately, it is not clear on which version of Android this new platform is developed (both 10 and 11 are indicated), which has the code name Monaco or if it includes the changes introduced with Wear OS 3.0 but, considering that devices with Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 4100 will be updated to the new operating system, it is practically certain that the new processors will also support it.

Monaco appears to have a quad-core CPU with an ARM Cortex-A73 core, which is a small improvement over the Snapdragon Wear 4100’s quad-core ARM Cortex-A53 configuration. We’ll see.
