Windows 11 start menu will soon be able to hide the recommended section

Although Windows 11 introduces a lot of visual changes, many parts of the underlying aspect still follow the design of the Windows 10 system. According to the feedback from the Reddit community users, Microsoft plans to introduce a new feature for Windows 11 to hide the recommended part of the start menu.

In the Windows 11 Build 22000.120 preview update, a new option will pop up when debugging StartMenuExperienceHost.exe, allowing Windows 11 users to further expand the list of applications in the Start menu. However, Redditor u/henrik_z4 users reported that this option is not easy to access.

According to BleepingComputer, hiding the recommended part of the Start menu in Windows 11 is one of the most requested features in the feedback center. At the time of release, it had more than 8462 support. This is why Microsoft responded to this request and pointed out that you can actually bypass this, but there are some caveats that the entire area will not collapse or disappear.

You can enter the settings menu, select Personalization, then Start, and then click the toggle switch that displays recently opened items in Start, Skip List and File Explorer. This will still leave a blank space at the bottom of your Start menu, and there will be no extra space for more applications. It also affects the file explorer.

Around this change, the feedback from Reddit users on the Windows 11 forum seems to be quite positive. The post has 501 support ratings, and it is gathering popularity even on Windows sub-forums. Hope that Microsoft can also see this kind of positive feedback and put this change in place as soon as possible.
