Overwatch League vice president denies that the league will be suspended for a year

E-sports website GGRecon published a report citing sources saying that Activision Blizzard’s Overwatch League will be suspended for a full year in the 2022 season. According to OWL Vice President Jon Spector, reports that the Overwatch League will be suspended for one year are untrue.

According to relevant sources, the reason for the postponement is related to Overwatch 2. The league wanted to use this new game in the new season next year, but the release of Overwatch 2 was delayed. After that, Jon Spector refuted this on Twitter. According to him, although the date of the 2022 season has not been announced, it is unlikely that it will be postponed by one year.

Jon Spector’s tweet wrote: It is unrealistic to respond to all rumors about our future plans, but in this case, this matter is wrong. We have not yet determined or communicated a date for the 2022 season, but In all the cases we are currently considering, we do not intend to conduct a ‘one-year interruption’.

The Overwatch League has been severely affected by the new crown epidemic. Just before the outbreak, the league was ready to finally try out the home and away mode, but due to restrictions on travel and indoor gatherings, these plans were cancelled. On the contrary, the league adopts a remote virtual setting, and matches between teams are conducted entirely online.
