Twitter now provides all users with the ability to host Spaces

Twitter first launched Spaces in November 2020, trying to replace the success of Clubhouse with its own version of the audio center chat room, but the actual ability to host Spaces is limited to Twitter users with 600 followers or more. Now, almost a year later, Twitter has finally given all users the ability to host Spaces.

Twitter had promised as early as April that every user could create Spaces. The Spaces team posted a tweet announcing the change, stating that Android and iOS users can now host Spaces. It also provides a GIF that briefly introduces how users host Spaces.

In the past year, Twitter has been surpassing itself, releasing a series of new features for Spaces, such as the ability to add co-hosts and up to 10 speakers. It created a fund called Spark Program” for Spaces creators and even tried out Ticketed Spaces, which is an audio room that requires a fee to enter. None of this provides all users with the most important ability: choosing to host their own Spaces.

Clubhouse got rid of the invitation status in July, and mobile users have been able to play the app since then. Since Twitter has only lifted restrictions on hosting rights, it may have missed an important window that makes users interested in using this feature.
