YouTube protects children even more, check the new rules

Google gives a new tightening to the rules on the publication of YouTube videos aimed at the most vulnerable, those of children and minors. The goal is on the one hand to reward creators capable of producing high-quality films suitable to meet the needs of the specific target audience, on the other hand, to penalize those who do not respect the required quality standards.

Channels that primarily target a young audience or are classified as made for kids will need to deliver high-quality content and comply with child-specific monetization policies. Google considers videos with a strong commercial or promotional message to be unsuitable for minors, or videos that contain encouragement of negative behavior or attitudes.

The channels that publish these videos risk being suspended from the YouTube Partner Program, while if a single video violates the new rules, the author runs the risk of losing all or part of the opportunity to monetize it with advertisements, which will be shown to a limited extent or completely absent.

Our ultimate goal is to promote a safe and stimulating environment for families by rewarding trustworthy creators who make high-quality content for children and families. The new rules will come into effect next month; Google ensures that it has already contacted potentially interested creators to support them in view of the variation of the rules.

The one just described is just one of Google’s many interventions to improve the protection of minors who access its platforms: at the beginning of the year, the Mountain View house intervened to make YouTube’s parental controls more flexible, while in August it announced others interventions that included, among the various services, the Google Assistant, the position history, Google Play and Google Workspace for Education.
