Tesla Incident Report in Florida: The owner ran a yellow light and did not mention Autopilot

In September last year, a Tesla Model 3 hit a tree and caught fire, killing two people. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) said in a preliminary investigation report on Wednesday that at the time of the accident, the owner was accelerating at full speed, racing at speeds several times the speed limit. The accident occurred on September 13 in Coral Gables, Florida.

The NTSB stated that the vehicle in the accident rushed through the yellow light at the intersection at a speed of 90 miles per hour (approximately 145 kilometers), and the battery caught fire after being hit. The firefighters were unable to put out the fire, and the fire reignited at least once. The 20-year-old man and the 19-year-old female passenger who drove the car died.

The report did not contain any signs that could indicate that Tesla’s automated driving assistance system Autopilot was involved in the accident. This fatal fire accident once again triggered the outside world to review the safety of Tesla’s innovative electric vehicles. The NTSB is also investigating a fatal accident and fire that occurred in Spring, Texas on April 17.
