Battlefield 2042 is missing something and we don’t know when it will arrive

The launch of Battlefield 2042, which took place today for the Early Access version, showed a rather strange lack for a game of the first-person shooter genre with only the multiplayer mode. The house title DICE, in fact, was launched without in-game voice chat. Definitely, a strange choice, which is out of place with respect to what the direct competitors and more generally all those who launch games with the multiplayer component only.

During a Q&A with The Washington Post that took place on the sidelines of the Battlefield 2042 review, DICE tried to justify his choice. According to the development team responsible for the series (and other online games), most players use stand-alone chat like Discord. Despite this, the software house still intends to implement a voice chat system and will do so “immediately after launch”. The problem is that this time window is indicated in the road map as “Day 25”, but we do not know if it refers to a launch on the twenty-fifth day of the release of Early Access or of the definitive version.

The reasons that led DICE not to include a voice chat in Battlefield 2042 are still legitimate. On PC, in fact, we now prefer to use Discord for communication between friends. On consoles, it is always possible to take advantage of the parties created with your teammates. In addition, voice chats have been at the center of a controversy regarding bullying for a few months now, so much so that some software houses are equipping themselves with systems to record them and intervene in the event of reports of offenses and harassment.

With an uncertain time window, the only way to know when DICE will enable (or rather, introduce) voice chat in Battlefield 2042 is to wait for their update. Communication towards the player has always been very transparent, so we are sure that the development team will update the public as soon as it becomes available.
