Samsung DeX is at the end of the line on macOS and Windows 7

Samsung DeX is a feature that allows you to get a PC experience by connecting an external monitor, keyboard and mouse to one of the company’s smartphones. The feature was introduced on the Samsung Galaxy S8 series and is available on most high-end Galaxy smartphones and tablets. Samsung also offers dedicated DeX apps for Windows and macOS that allow users to access the DeX environment from their existing computer.

Samsung DeX is on the avenue of the sunset for Windows 7 and Mac OS

The South Korean giant informs via its website that it is ending support for the Samsung DeX service on Windows 7 and macOS starting next year. In fact, macOS users have already started seeing a message in the app informing them that support for DeX will end in January 2022. Windows 7 and macOS users will need to use a DeX dock to mirror to an external monitor by connecting the smartphone to the computer via a USB cable and starting the DeX service.

Samsung says that users who have already installed the DeX PC client can continue to use the service, but the company will not provide any support or updates from next year. It appears that Windows 10 users are not affected and should therefore continue to receive updates. In February of this year, Samsung added support for wireless DeX mode which allows users to stream DeX wirelessly to a compatible smart TV or PC.
