Another Samsung foldable phone patent revealed

With the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3, Samsung has become a leader in the field of foldable mobile phones. The Korean manufacturer is confident in the future of these new foldable devices. Over time, Samsung has also applied for many foldable and rollable smartphone patents for future models.

Last October, the Dutch technology media LetsGoDigital reported a novel design of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold smart phone, the phone with a sliding keyboard. In August of this year, similar Galaxy Z Fold & Roll models followed one after another, which is both foldable and extendable. Recently, Samsung has obtained a similar patent for a foldable mobile phone, which the media will call Samsung Galaxy Z Fold & Slide.

The new mobile phone patent is based on the previous patent, but provides more details. One of the most noteworthy is the camera, the device has 5 cameras, and also uses a hidden hinge design. The new patent was submitted to the World Intellectual Property Office (WIPO) in mid-May 2021 and was included on November 25. The file contains a 60-page description.

In its most compact state, the patented Samsung foldable smartphone is very similar to the Galaxy Z Fold 3. A large flexible screen is used, and a cover display is also included. When you unfold the device, you can see a 7.6-inch tablet-sized screen.

Then the device can further enlarge the screen with a button, the additional screen is expanded from the left side of the device, and then the screen is enlarged by about 25%. You can even use the display part that can be pulled out in folded mode. An additional display can show general information such as time and battery indicator. It can also display information related to the application.

Another special feature is the camera system. The device is equipped with five cameras, including a periscope telephoto zoom camera. An LED flash is also included in the design. The camera system is significantly more advanced than what we have learned from the current Galaxy Z series of smartphones. For now, there is no folding phone equipped with a telephoto zoom lens. Samsung has not released any phones with 5 camera lenses.

Patent documents also show that the phone will support reverse wireless charging. Earlier this month, LetsGoDigital reported on a Samsung patent for a tri-fold smartphone that supports reverse wireless charging. Samsung can also choose to apply the patented technology to up and down folding models-such as the Galaxy Z Flip 3. In this case, the extra display part will be pulled into the device from the bottom.
