Model S Plaid becomes the first Tesla car to run a quarter mile in 8 seconds

Model S Plaid became the first Tesla car to run a quarter-mile in 8 seconds. Now, George and Christina Dodworth have successfully brought a Model S Plaid into the 8-second record. The record was achieved during Drag Week of Hot Rod magazine held at Maryland International Speedway earlier this month.

The car did not modify the power system or the body, or even completely peel it off, but they did remove the passenger seat to reduce weight. They also used some more performance-oriented wheels and tires. With these modifications, they were able to complete a speed of 155.1 miles in 8.994 seconds.

After the Tesla Model S Plaid was launched in June, it was labeled the fastest production car-although some people say that it has been technically replaced by the R iMac Nevara. Although technically correct, Nevara is a US$2 million supercar with a limited production, while Model S Plaid is a US$130,000 car with thousands on the road.

In a sense, it is also the first production car to achieve a quarter mile under 9 full seconds. The quotation marks here mainly depend on the user’s definition of the production car. Some people believe that it should be a stock car that has not undergone any modification at the factory, while others believe that as long as you do not have any powertrain modifications, you can be considered a production car. For the latter, different tires, wheels, and some weight reduction would be considered okay.
