The WhatsApp developer team releases new beta versions of this popular instant messaging service almost every day and users who decide to install them must be prepared to face even more or less relevant problems, including application crashes.
For example, last week the WhatsApp team released two versions that introduce critical bugs, build 2.21.24.11 for Android and build 2.21.240.14 for iOS: with the first the application continues to crash for some users who have a smartphone with Android 12 while with the second the closing of the app occurs after a change of status or sending a message in a group chat.
How to fix if WhatsApp Beta crashes
Android users who are facing a build with obvious and serious problems can uninstall it manually and proceed to install an older release (to be downloaded from APK Mirror) but a backup is required to restore the chat history. In case you don’t have a backup, it is also possible to downgrade WhatsApp without losing app data (and without root permissions) using Android 10 Debug Bridge (or higher). Here’s how to do it:
- Enable USB debugging from the phone Settings, by going to the Developer options section (if this setting is not visible, it must be enabled by tapping “Build number” 7 times in the “About phone” section)
- Connect the Android smartphone to the computer via USB
- Download the adb tools and extract the zip file in any folder on the PC, in which the APK file of the previous version of WhatsApp downloaded from APKMirror must also be inserted
- Rename the downloaded APK to app.apk to simplify the procedure
- In this same folder right-click and select “Open in Windows Terminal”
- Type “adb devices” to check if the device is connected, then to downgrade WhatsApp type the command adb push app.apk /data/local/tmp/app.apk and the command adb shell pm install -r -d / data / local / tmp / app.apk

Of course, it’s much easier (and therefore recommended) to back up your chat history before installing a new beta update.
