MIUI 13 will remove some features and replace them with others

If the beta program of the global versions of MIUI was interrupted a few years ago due to the low number of feedback from users, the Chinese version of MIUI can still count on a development version, with weekly releases full of news and changes. In view of the imminent launch of MIUI 13, which should be announced over the next few weeks, Xiaomi has introduced several innovations that in all likelihood we will see in the new interface.

Goodbye to SOT and some wallpapers

Following the example of Google, which has removed from Android 12 the possibility of viewing the statistics relating to the screen on time, also the new beta (21.12.4) of MIUI removes this screen. It, therefore, becomes necessary to resort to a third-party application to obtain this information, which apparently is not considered essential.

For the moment, however, the novelty is limited to devices for which an MIUI based on Android 12 is available, so only some models are in the testing phase. The Super Weather Wallpaper, which was introduced in January of this year, also disappears. The background is also removed by the update to version 3.0.1.0 of the MIUI Weather application.

Xiaomi is following Google more and more closely, therefore, reducing the level of customization, with a view to accelerating the development of new versions and reducing the number of potential bugs related to proprietary solutions that make use of undocumented or obsolete APIs.

News coming soon

News instead for the MIUI Camera app, which now allows you to add a watermark when scanning a document. This makes it easier to protect important documents from unauthorized copying and uncontrolled dissemination. The MIUI File Manager also allows direct access to files stored in the Xiaomi cloud, thanks to a new shortcut that leads directly to MiDrive.

Finally, the remainder relates to the low battery changes, which goes from 30% to 15%. Until now it was necessary to have at least 30% of the remaining battery to be able to start installing a system update, now it is sufficient that the battery is at least at 15% (obviously always with the battery charger connected). As anticipated, the news is only available in the beta of the Chinese ROM and will arrive in global ROMs only with MIUI 13, so over the next year.
