Facebook and Instagram launch personalized year in review feature

The Meta company, formerly Facebook, has launched the Annual Review feature for Facebook and Instagram. On Facebook, users can share their personalized Year Together card, which highlights the friends, feelings, places, and people that are most important to them in 2021. The new in-feed experience reflects the year people have been on the platform and curated it into a shareable card. This new feature will be available worldwide starting Thursday and will be available before December 30.

On Instagram, users can share a customized year-end Playback time capsule in their IG story. This feature utilizes Stories Archive, so users can customize and select up to 10 stories to share with their fans. To qualify for this feature, users need to publish more than three stories this year or open a story archive.

The platform will recommend replaying posts for users, but users can also choose what they want to share. Users will see a message in their Instagram feed, inviting them to create their own replay. This new feature will be available to users in a few weeks.

In the past few years, Instagram users have created their own version of the year-end review feature, and they will post their top nine pictures in the photo grid. This year, Instagram offered its users an in-app method to create year-end content that can be shared.

Both Facebook and Instagram’s new features are fully customizable, so users can add or delete content and posts of their choice. Meta pointed out that these two features will be rolled out to all users around the world in the next few days.

The new feature is introduced because the shareable year-end summary is becoming more and more popular, thanks to the Wrapped experience that Spotify shares widely on social media every year. Facebook and Instagram have joined the ranks of many other digital giants, hoping to imitate this popular feature by publishing their own versions. For example, Reddit this week launched a personalized review with statistics on user habits; at the same time, Snapchat is also expected to launch its “year-end story” feature this month.
