LG’s New Patent: Development of a new foldable display panel for in-vehicle entertainment systems

Recently, LG submitted a technical patent to the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) to develop a foldable display panel for in-vehicle entertainment systems. The related design is shown in the patent sketch, and the onboard display panel can be expanded to present a larger screen space. Just like a vertical Galaxy Z Fold, the external screen can display incoming calls, weather and other information in the folded state, and can display more content in the expanded state.

The flexible design of the foldable infotainment display should save some space on the car dashboard and also provide (some) protection for the display when not technically in use. Unfortunately, the patent description does not disclose technical details, such as panel size, usage scenarios, panel compatibility, etc.

Since this is a car panel, its possibilities may be limited, but since LG is known for innovation, we would love to know what it does. The design is still in the patent stage, so we don’t know whether LG will launch such a design for commercial use, but we really want to know the direction of LG’s development, because this is a good start for various categories of products.
