Cyberpunk 2077 has had a harrowing year since the very first moment it debuted. Its launch was in fact disastrous, and in 2021 it was no less: throughout this period the title was assailed by harsh criticism, and it was difficult to see a future in which the game would reach its true potential. The work was even the reason for four lawsuits against CD Projekt, still pending today even if the situation has calmed down slightly. Despite everything Cyberpunk 2077 has had to go through, it looks like this is finally on the right track.
The game was already towards a recovery period for a few months, and after what has happened in the last period it is now clear that more and more users are realizing it: Cyberpunk 2077 is becoming what the developers wanted it to be ever. from the first day. The work was in fact awarded as Game of the Year by IGN Japan, finishing in the first position in the list of the 10 best games of the year along with other top titles such as It Takes Two, Resident Evil Village and Metroid Dread.
IGN Japan is also keen to specify the reason that led them to make this choice:
[…] The main reason is that Night City is a map with a kind of open-world that other games don’t have. The world, created down to the smallest detail even in the signs and its inhabitants, gives you a special feeling even just walking around. The gameplay is nothing overly innovative, but the desperate episodes of an impending cruel future in the glamorous metropolis, and the bizarre urban legends that are beyond our common sense, are original. They are incredible. The relationship between Johnny Silverhand, staged by Keanu Reeves, and the player’s character confers a mature ending that leaves us with a very profound question: “What is a real hero?”. This product is a masterpiece that will remain in history. And that’s enough.
Although everyone may have their own sacrosanct opinion, what IGN Japan has found is true: Cyberpunk 2077 has a lot to rival the other giants of the videogame industry of this genre, thanks to its originality and its complex history. There is no doubt that the game will remain in history, it only remains to be seen if it will do so for the right reasons or not.
