The At a Glance widget no longer displays bad weather warnings

Last week, Google unintentionally released a storm warning about the Philippines around the world, after which the bad weather warnings in Pixel Launcher’s At a Glance widget appear to have been completely disabled. On the smartphones of the Google Pixel family, this widget is integrated into the home screen, the lock screen and the always-on display (AOD), and is also available if you use the Google App widget.

The weather alerts option is no longer usable for the At a Glance widget

Visiting the settings of the At a Glance widget on Android 12, users found that the switch for the Alerts option just below Weather is disabled. You can reactivate it, but it deactivates immediately as soon as you leave the screen.

The problem also occurs on Google Pixel smartphones that still run Android 11 with the latest version 12.48 of the Google App, but in this case, the setting has completely disappeared. The issue surfaced on Friday and continues to this day and appears to affect Pixel devices globally.

It’s possible that last week’s fake weather alert led Google to completely disable bad weather warnings, either on purpose or accidentally. Google first introduced severe weather warnings, which come from the local weather service, in late 2020 before rolling them out more widely earlier this year. It is hoped that the Mountain View giant will soon correct this problem.
