Google Photos: Deactivate animated images and videos in the stream

Google Photos is primarily a memory for pictures, but can of course also store videos or animated photos in the cloud and play them back. For a long time, there has been an automatic preview when scrolling through the photostream, which is standard behavior but is by no means likely to please all users. Now it can finally be deactivated on Android.

Automatically playing videos have become the standard on many platforms and are likely to meet with mixed reactions. Some love the comfort, others are rather disturbed by it and would rather press the play button themselves. If you belong to the second group, you can now deactivate this behavior of Google Photos in the Android app. A new option has been rolled out for this, which has made it into the app at some point in the last few weeks.

Simply open the Google Photos settings in the Android app and look for the item Playback in the photo grid. In the submenu, you can choose whether automatic playback should be activated or deactivated for videos or photos with moving images. Google Photos recommends that both options be left enabled in order to get the most out of the app. But you can set it yourself for both categories. I think turning it off for videos and turning it on for Motion Photos is the best option.
