iPhone 15 is expected to be equipped with a periscope lens up to 10x optical zoom

Analyst Jeff Pu said that at least one iPhone 15 model launched in 2023 will be equipped with a periscope camera system, which creates conditions for increasing the optical zoom. With the periscope system, light entering the telephoto lens on the back of the iPhone will be reflected by a tilted mirror onto the camera’s image sensor.

The change in the direction of light propagation will allow Apple to install a longer telephoto device in the iPhone, allowing users to zoom in further without any blur. Since the beginning of 2020, rumors about iPhone getting a periscope lens have been circulating.

The famous Tianfeng Securities analyst Guo Mingchi was the first to mention this possibility. Guo Mingchi initially said that the periscope lens will be a feature of the iPhone 14 Pro, but now it seems that we have to wait until next year’s iPhone 15 Pro.

There are already a number of Android smart phones have periscope lens, including Samsung’s Galaxy S21 Ultra and Huawei’s P40 Pro+. Both devices have up to 10x optical zoom, and with a periscope lens, the iPhone 15 Pro may also follow suit. During this period, iPhone 13 Pro models are limited to 3x optical zoom.
