Facebook: Privacy Center bundles all questions on the subject of data protection

In the future, Facebook plans to bundle information and settings on the subject of data protection. For the time being, the so-called Privacy Center will be introduced on the desktop in the USA. There, however, the new view is only available to a limited number of users. However, it is planned to expand it to other users and also to other apps.

The aim of the data protection center is to educate users about data protection options and to show how Facebook collects and uses information. But also how Facebook protects your personal data from unauthorized access. If this were to be made really transparent there, then users would probably stop using Facebook. The new data protection center should be the fulcrum for controls and education about data protection. It combines the following five areas:

  • Security: You can brush up on account security, set up tools like two-factor authentication, or learn more about how Meta works against data scraping.
  • Sharing: Visit this guide if you have questions about who can see what you post or how to use tools like Manage Activity to clean up old posts on your profile.
  • Collect: Learn about the different types of data Meta collects and how you can view that data using tools like Access Your Information.
  • Use: Find out more about how and why we use data and see the controls we offer to manage the use of your data.
  • Ads: Learn more about how your data is used to determine the ads you see and take advantage of ad controls such as ad preferences.

The privacy center should be located for activated persons via the settings in the Privacy area. It is planned to update the data protection center from now on and to add more areas and controls. Is that the big hit or more publicity? Well, I’m guessing that the majority of people who haven’t thought about it so far will hardly bother to dig into the topic. This means that there are certainly only a few who rethink or adapt the corresponding options.
