In many parts of the world, with the number of renters rising and home values rising much faster than wages, owning a new home has gone from an expectation to a distant dream for young people. Final Fantasy 14 is also facing a housing shortage — but developer Square Enix actually has plans to address that in an MMO.
In a new article on the game’s website, producer and director, Naoki Yoshida discusses the housing strain caused by the influx of new players following the release of the free trial. The solution, it turns out, is not to suggest that a group of players should switch to Different MMOs.
The plan, he said, is to improve the data center so the game can bring in more housing lots, although that work will take time due to the current difficult COVID-19 situation. Until then, however, the developers are “doing everything they can to further optimize the server.”
In patch 5.4, Yoshida said, more plots will be available for purchase. “We will make follow-up announcements when we have a timeline for adding these programs and how many programs can be added,” he said, again apologizing.
