It is reported that Samsung 4080 batteries have entered the final confirmation stage of specifications, and will soon be put into mass production in overseas factories in Malaysia and Hungary. It is reported that this battery is not inferior to Tesla’s 4680 battery in performance, the energy density is significantly improved, and it is easier to produce.

Last February, Samsung SDI and Lucid signed a supply agreement, but the agreement was for the 21700-type battery, which is the type of battery Samsung currently produces. It is expected that due to the successful development and mass production of batteries such as the 4080, in the future the company will be able to compete with Panasonic in the production of the 4680 battery, which will be used in Tesla electric vehicles.

Tesla has previously stated that compared with current batteries, the 4680 battery has a five-fold increase in energy density, a 16% increase in the car’s battery life, and a six-fold increase in power. However, the commercial availability of the 4680 battery has reportedly been pushed back to 2023.
