Google Workspace now offers a more robust editing experience in Google Chat on the web

Google Workspace announced that with the arrival of a new update, Google Chat on the web will usher in a more powerful editing experience. Now, Google Workplace users will be able to add rich formatting such as underline, italics or bold to chat messages.

Additionally, the update will allow changing text color and adding bullets. Users will also be able to access rich text through standard keyboard shortcuts. To activate rich text editing, you need to press the “A” icon in the chat compose bar to expand the formatting toolbar.

Earlier, Chat only provided support for markdown characters or plain text. The latest update will now allow users to format their text on-demand directly in the compose bar. Keep in mind, though, that if you use the Format button or keyboard shortcut to format the text, it will unformat any markup added to the message.

If you paste formatted text into a chat room, it will retain the copied formatting. The new update is now available to all Workplace users and G Suite Basic and Business customers.
