Accessory maker of Dbrand quickly made a nice-looking PS5 replacement case before Sony filed a patent for the PS5 case, dubbing it Darkplates. However, because Dbrand’s Darkplates were too similar to Sony’s design, Sony issued a cease-and-desist order to Dbrand, forcing Dbrand to stop selling the products. Sony then applied for a PS5 case patent and decided to produce it by itself.

On January 22, Dbrand shared a tweet on Twitter, in which user Cinco9_ purchased an official PS5 case in “Midnight Black” color, but when he actually got it, he found that the official case had serious flaws. The color difference problem, it is more like dark blue than black, and the color does not match the official PS5 handle, although the official PS5 handle is also labeled “Midnight Black”. Cinco9_ said bluntly that he was very disappointed with the chromatic aberration.

Cinco9_ also tweeted about the black PS5 case produced by Dbrand, it can be seen that Dbrand’s black case is a bit more black, and Dbrand also commented later: Smile, you (Sony) can’t find black through lawsuits. What is it like?

It’s unclear if the official case for the PS5 “Midnight Black” is actually at fault, or if this is just an isolated case. For its part, Dbrand released Darkplates 2.0, a redesign of the PS5’s case, despite the threat of a lawsuit from Sony, which has sold out four waves so far.
