Windows 11 will bring bigger-than-ever updates to Android apps, taskbar improvements, and more in February, Microsoft is now detailing the full 2022 release date, according to The Verge. Plans for Windows 11 testing in 2019.
Microsoft said it plans to let Windows 11 testers test and evaluate more features, but these features may never be released. Windows Insider will see us rely more on the Dev channel as a place to incubate new ideas, develop long-term projects, and control the state of individual features, explained Windows Insider Program Lead Amanda Langowski, in some cases, these concepts will never be released, but with more testing, we can better refine the experience and deliver a solution in Windows that really allows our customers to achieve more.
We’ve seen some similar A/B tests before. Some Windows Insiders will have access to the feature before Microsoft rolls it out more widely to testers.
“We also recognize that some of the more technical Insiders found that certain features were intentionally disabled in the builds we tested, ” Langowski said. “This is by design, and in this case, we will only communicate with Insiders. Communicate features that are intended for them to try and give feedback.”
The Dev channel for Windows 11 testing will now really be where experimental features come in, while the Beta channel will contain features closer to all users. This could mean that new features even appear first in the Beta channel if they are closer to an announcement.
Microsoft now plans to give Windows 11 testers an option to switch from the Dev channel to the Beta channel to avoid more ongoing experimental features. This may coincide with new features released in February, including Android app support, taskbar changes, and redesigned Notepad and Media Player apps.
