Tesla FSD beta hits road barrier in what may be the first time it’s been photographed in an accident

A Tesla running a full self-driving beta was photographed crashing into a road barrier in what could be the first accident for an FSD beta. Last month, Elon Musk claimed that Tesla’s full Self-Driving beta has been in place for more than a year without an accident.

Although a Model Y owner who took part in the FSD beta said in a complaint to NHTSA that the system caused a crash, the complaint could not be substantiated. Now we have a real-world example of an accident in a fully autonomous driving (FSD) beta.

An FSD beta driver, who goes by the online name AI Addict, has posted a new video on YouTube showing a Tesla electric car in self-driving crashing into a road divider that protects a bike lane. Of course, it was a minor accident with only a little damage to the body paint, but FSD technically made the car hit something it shouldn’t have.

It’s worth noting that Tesla is not responsible for the Full Self-Driving Beta (FSD Beta). It is believed to be an early version of Tesla’s Autopilot software and is currently being tested by a fleet of Tesla owners selected by the company, subject to its Safe Driving Test Score.

The software enables the vehicle to autonomously drive to the destination entered in the car’s navigation system, but the driver remains responsible for the vehicle, alert and ready to take control. The video was shot in downtown San Jose using Tesla’s latest software release: Full Self-Driving Beta Version 10.10 (2021.44.30.15).
