Today Apple released the latest macOS Monterey 12.3 Beta 2 system update. Following the release of macOS Monterey 12.2 last month, some Mac users who installed the software update started experiencing excessive battery drain in sleep mode, seemingly due to Bluetooth accessories frequently waking the device. This issue also appears to affect devices running macOS 12.3 Beta 1.
Many affected users found battery life dropped from 100% to 0% when their Macs were left in sleep mode overnight. Some users have tried to figure out why in the terminal and found that Bluetooth accessories often cause “wake from deep idle,” causing the Mac to repeatedly wake from sleep and drain the battery.
Fortunately, today’s release of macOS 12.3 Beta 2 appears to fix the problem. Mr. Macintosh said in a tweet that his 2018 MacBook Pro had this issue on the first beta of macOS 12.3 and was no longer affected on the second beta.
macOS 12.3 will likely be released to the public around March or April this year, with fixes for all affected users. During this time, users can disable Bluetooth on the Mac or disconnect all Bluetooth accessories overnight to prevent battery drain.
