Twitter announced Tuesday that the company is testing video playback speed options on Android and the web. Many people now adjust the playback speed of YouTube videos and podcasts to 1.5 times or even 2 times to save viewing time, and Twitter, which hosts more and more video content on social platforms, is also expected to have such capabilities.
For those who are testing, while watching a video, there is a small gear in the playback interface that can be clicked or tapped to access different speed options. According to Twitter’s announcement tweet, the option can be adjusted to gradually watch the video from as slow as 0.25x to as fast as 2x.
In 2x, 1x, 0.5x…now testing more options in playback speed for videos.
Some of you on Android and web will have different sets of playback speeds to choose from so you can slow down or speed up videos and voice Tweets. pic.twitter.com/OfGPf4F6Og

Tests are currently only available online by invitation, and not on mobile phones, especially if using iOS. Twitter didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment on how big the test was or when it would be available on iOS, so there will be plenty more people stuck at a single playback speed for the foreseeable future.
