For Google, the Wear OS reboot went pretty wrong

There is no Pixel Watch, no Fitbit watch and no hardware from other manufacturers with Wear OS 3. We also still miss the Assistant. Wear OS missed a huge announcement in spring 2021, but unfortunately, there wasn’t that much left of it in the end.

With the latest Wear OS version 3.0, there is only one smartwatch so far. And to top it all off, an app that is very important for Google is still not on board many months later. It’s probably Google’s fault.

Google Assistant delayed for more months

As has become known these days, Google Assistant for Wear OS 3 is only coming in a few months. By then, a good year has passed since the big announcement about Wear OS. During this time, some goals have probably been missed internally, such as the provision of the Google Assistant in its new next-gen version.

The expected premiere of the Pixel Watch has also been postponed for a long time. Either because Google Assistant was not finished, there were problems with the hardware or Samsung had a say in the matter. So far there is no trace of the first Fitbit watch with Wear OS. So far there have only been verbal announcements.

Wear OS 3: There is still no hardware other than the Galaxy Watch 4

The next Google I/O will take place in about three months and then it’s time to take stock. From today’s perspective, it looks bleak. While the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 is a really good watch, it’s still the only one with Wear OS 3 for the foreseeable future. And still without the Google Assistant on board.

To date, there is no other hardware with the new Wear OS and there is no more insight before May. In my opinion, a successful restart from Google’s point of view looks different if Wear OS is supposed to reflect the Android idea and is actually not just exclusive to Samsung.
