Google Chrome: The bar at the bottom should finally disappear

Google Chrome users can look forward to some innovations these days that are being rolled out in areas that are usually hardly touched. In addition to the new Journeys history, this will soon also include a new download manager that is moved to the other end of the browser and takes up significantly less space than before.

Google Chrome has always had a very simple download manager, which can be found at chrome://downloads and lists all active and past downloads with some details. If a new download is started, a comparatively large bar appears at the bottom of the browser, which provides information about the current and last downloads.

Should be known to everyone and actually does not fit into the Chrome concept of leaving as much space as possible for the actual website. The designers have also noticed this after more than a decade.

The new download area now moves to the top of the icon bar, which contains the extensions, the profile and also the Chrome menu. It is displayed there with a simple download symbol.

If a download is active, the button turns blue and shows the progress with a circular border. Clicking the button opens an overlay that is very similar to the full download area, but still lacks a few features.

The new version can currently be seen in Chrome Canary. So if you want to try it out, you can simply switch to the experimental browser. A flag or something similar is not necessary.
