Microsoft recently announced that it plans to introduce new features to the Windows 11 operating system outside of the 2022 Fall Update. Now, with the release preview and beta testing channel open, we expect the first major update of the year to arrive later this month.
Compared to Windows 10, Windows 11 has a more modular design and features can be pushed through separate Windows/Microsoft updates.
These functional experiences are available with the annual major version update, supplemented by other minor improvements brought to the operating system, such as the Windows 11 Build 22000.526 compiled version that was recently pushed to the Release Preview and Beta test channels.
It is reported that the new preview restores support for date/time display on multiple monitors so that users can freely choose to add the clock and date to the taskbar of the screen other than the main monitor.
In addition, Microsoft added support for weather content on the left side of the taskbar. As shown in the image above, if you choose center alignment for the taskbar icon (or left alignment), the weather widget will appear on the left side of the desktop.
You can also hover over the weather, or click the button, to open the existing widget panel on the left. In addition, users can share content in the windows of open applications (such as mute/unmute active video calls) directly from the Windows 11 taskbar.
Interested friends, the February 2022 Update for Windows 11 is now available through the preview channel to enable the taskbar content sharing experience during Microsoft Teams calls.
This removes the need for users to switch back and forth between open applications/windows, allowing everyone to focus more on the current meeting (click “Share this window” below the app preview pane/ and “Stop Sharing”).
Finally, this round of updates fixes an issue that caused incorrect tooltips to appear on the taskbar, and an issue where offline files were on network drives after restarting the OS and logging in. Microsoft is also expected to push Android support and other improvements through “experience packs” in the coming weeks.
