Might and Magic is a series of computer role-playing games developed by New World Computing. Its founder is Joe Wan Canchem. The Might and Magic series is considered one of the foundational series of early role-playing games.

The Might and Magic series date back to 1986, when the first game in the series, Might and Magic I: Mystery of the Inner Sanctuary, was released for the Apple II, Mac, MS-DOS, Commodore 64, NES MSX, and PC Engine. Since then, a total of 10 games have been released that are considered “main series”, along with countless spin-off games.

The series was originally developed by New World Computing, which was merged into 3DO in 1996. After 3DO went bankrupt in 2003, Ubisoft purchased the rights to Might and Magic for $1.3 million. The last Might & Magic game, Might & Magic X: Legacy, was released on PC and Mac in 2014.

It’s a new game in the series’ 12-year-old release, and it’s the longest run in the series since its inception. Might and Magic: Legacy, published by Ubisoft and developed by Limbic Entertainment, has received fairly positive reviews, with a score of 71 on the review site Metacritic.

Since Ubisoft acquired the rights to Might and Magic, the company has also launched a new entry in the franchise’s better-known spinoff, Heroes of Might and Magic, the latest game in the series, Heroes 7, was released in 2015.

In addition, Ubisoft released mobile games and free-to-play games such as Heroes of Might and Magic: Age of War and Heroes of Might and Magic in 2019 and 2020, respectively.
