Windows 11 preview version 22563 has a major bug

Microsoft released the Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 22563 system update for Dev channel users yesterday, bringing a number of improvements such as tablet mode optimization.

However, according to feedback from many users, this version has a major bug. When the mouse right-clicks the start button or uses the Win + X shortcut, Windows Explorer explorer.exe will crash and restart.

At present, Deskmodder found a solution to this bug, which is to replace it with a new taskbar. Microsoft has launched a new collapsible taskbar in Windows 11 preview version 22563, but it is only available to some users.

According to information discovered by Albacore, the source of the bug is this taskbar. The taskbar is designed for tablet mode, and there will be an internal value to determine whether the taskbar is collapsed.

Older versions of the taskbar didn’t have this folding feature at all, so a null pointer reference would appear, causing explorer.exe to crash.

Users can open the new version of the taskbar by themselves through ViveTool. The command line is as follows:

vivetool addconfig 26008830 2

The command line to go back to the old taskbar is as follows:

vivetool delconfig 26008830 2

In addition, the new version of the taskbar will have a series of improvements, with more rounded corners. As you can see from the figure below, the up arrow on the taskbar tray has also been improved to display Win11-style prompts.
