Android: Google plans almost definitive end for dessert names

Google has already removed the dessert from the Android names for marketing purposes. The same should happen with the preview versions.

Internally, Android versions are still named like desserts and always with the correct first letter. Android 13 is Android T and is referred to internally as Android Tiramisu.

If you use the preview version, this name will even be displayed as an Android version. The finished Android hasn’t publicly had a dessert name since version 10. Android 9 Pie was the last version that had its own name in addition to the sequential numbering.

Tiramisu, Android’s Last Visible Dessert Name?

As said, Android 13 is called Tiramisu and currently still presents this name in the system settings. But that should change, as Mishaal Rahman has already discovered. The developers speak of a “user-friendly name” that users will see there in the future. What is meant by this is an indication that it is currently a preview version (Developer Preview/Beta).

So instead of displaying Tiramisu, as is still the case during the development phase, it should say “Android 13 Preview 2” or “Android 13 Beta 2”. In the future, there will no longer be any visible dessert names, even if the user is already using a new Android during the test and development phase.
