Netflix has temporarily halted all future projects and acquisitions in Russia to assess the impact of Russia’s military campaign against Ukraine, people familiar with the matter said.
Netflix was originally producing and post-production on four Russian-language dramas, including the detective drama Zato. Netflix said earlier this week that under the current circumstances.
The company has no plans to add Russian state-owned channels to the Russian service, despite regulations requiring it to distribute state-owned channels. Netflix has launched its service in 190 countries, and Russia is one of them.
Russia has been facing boycotts from the film and television industries. The Cannes Film Festival said in a statement on Tuesday that it will bar the official Russian delegation from the 2022 Cannes Film Festival unless the conflict in Ukraine ends.
