Samsung reveals it’s making AR headsets for Metaverse to compete directly with Apple, Google

Apple has been rumored to be developing its AR headset to enter the metaspace, and Samsung’s side has had little development in that regard. Now, a company executive has hinted at building a Metaverse-compatible device.

During a visit to Samsung’s booth at Mobile World Congress 2022 on Monday, company CEO Han Jong-hee hinted that Samsung will make a comeback in VR with an extended reality headset compatible with its metadata platform.

According to Investor, Han put it this way:

(Metaverse-related devices) are the hottest topic right now, so we’ve got our next mission in place to address this trend. It won’t take too long, and we’re working on perfection as we prepare for the product launch.

While there’s no word on when Samsung’s unnamed AR headset will come to fruition, it’s been three years since the South Korean giant launched the headset. The company’s early efforts to launch products under the Odyssey and Gear VR brands were long before the term “metaverse” was rambled on in the tech media.
