Ukraine’s deputy prime minister asks gaming platforms such as Xbox and PlayStation to leave Russian market

As the conflict between Russia and Ukraine intensifies, Ukraine’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Transformation Mykhailo Fedorov today signed a letter calling for game development companies and esports platforms to leave the Russian market, specifically calling for Microsoft’s Xbox and Sony’s PlayStation.

In subsequent tweets, Ukraine’s deputy prime minister also asked companies such as Riot Games, Electronic Arts, Ubisoft, Gameloft and Wargaming to close their Russian offices.

While individual companies donate to humanitarian work, there is currently no industry-wide response to the ongoing war, certainly not on the level of other industries and entertainment media.

For example, Russia has been excluded from some sports competitions, and companies such as Apple have decided to stop selling their products in Russia until further notice. The latter also happened at Fedorov’s request.
