VGChartz recently estimated PS5 sales as of February 2022 and compared them with PS4 over the same period. The PS5 was released in November 2020, and the PS4 was released in November 2013, so the Christmas period experienced by the two is corresponding.
February 2022 marks the 16th month of the PS5’s launch. By comparison, the PS4’s 16th-month sales were 530,736 more units than the PS5’s 16th-month sales.
In the same period of sales comparison in the last 12 months, PS4 sales are ahead by 1,644,354 units. In the 16-month comparison of total sales in the same period, PS4 led by 1,809,479 units.
After 16 months on the market, the PS5 sold 18,043,338 units, while the PS4 sold 19,852,817 units after 16 months on the market.
PS4 sales exceeded 20 million in 17 months, 30 million in 25 months, and 40 million in 31 months. Total PS4 sales to date are 116 million units.
