New Sonos hardware has surfaced at the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC, an independent commission that regulates broadcast routes, satellite and cable). Depending on the status, one can learn more or less about wireless technology, in some cases also see pictures.
In this specific case, the available information is extremely meager, so one has to speculate. The new speaker is listed under FCC ID SBVRM036 and is called Sonos S36. According to the label, it’s a wireless speaker, which shouldn’t come as a surprise with Sonos.
It is a rectangular device that operates at 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz. If you look at the documents, you will surely come to the conclusion that it is not the Sub Mini – but there were rumors about a new second-generation Playbar from Sonos.
At the moment I would speculate that the Sonos S36 is the new Playbar Gen 2. A leveling up of the old Playbar, as Sonos did with the Beam and thus brought new possibilities – eARC and Dolby Atmos.
