That of modding is a magical world that, as all fans know well, manages to give a second youth – or at least a much longer life – to products no longer supported by the manufacturer on duty and today we are talking about Google Pixel 2 and Google Pixel 2 XL, which thanks to the community just got an otherwise impossible taste of Android 12.
If a few weeks ago we even told you about Samsung Galaxy S4 – a class of 2013 -, with today’s models you don’t need to go far back. Launched from the Mountain View house in October 2017 with Android 8.0 Oreo on board, Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL has long since stopped receiving official software updates, however, they are not dead yet.
Google Pixel 2 e 2 XL: Android 12 con LineageOS
Yes, because, thanks to LineageOS 19.0, the two ancient Made by Google smartphones can even make the leap to Android 12. Before getting too enthusiastic, it is essential to state that the build-in question is an Unofficial of the hugely popular custom ROM with AOSP base (all LineageOS source code is available in its Github repo).
If you still have a Google Pixel 2 or a Pixel 2 XL in your hands or in a drawer and are thinking of giving it a try, here is a complete list of what doesn’t work and what does:
What’s working
- Active Edge
- Selinux Enforcing
- Encryption
- RIL (Calls, SMS, Data)
- Bluetooth
- Wi-Fi
- Camera
- Video Recording
- Video Playback
- Audio ( Record and Playback )
- Sensors
- Flash
- Led
What’s not working
- Lockscreen shows an under-display fingerprint sensor indicator
- There is some missing functionality and a few bugs as this is a very early build of Lineage
